THE STRANGE LIFE OF NIKOLA TESLA
Engineering, electrical and mechanical, is positive in results. There is scarcely a subject that cannot be examined beforehand, from the available theoretical and practical data.
The carrying out into practice of a crude idea as is being generally done, is, I hold, nothing but a waste of energy, money, and time." from "The strange life of Nikola Tesla" by Nikola Tesla.
Reading Nikola Tesla's self biography allows us to catch the nature of thinking, the spirit that animated him, his aims and his beliefs, and even if we cannot enter his living consciousness, this book is the great proof of his relationship with life and his concept of himself as human being and inventor, it comes out his intimate relationship with the entire universe. An infinite connection was the one he entertained with the universe, unconscious and incomprehensible in the events, that made him sensible over measure in the use of his five senses, most of all the hearing, and a prey of a fervid imagination, so absorbed he was in the constant communication with nature from which he knew he could catch helps and secrets, that he obtained to meet the human needs. In my opinion it was his mother, inventress as him, to instill in Tesla a consciousness of confidence into nature, its laws and into the force and power of man, and his mother's figure and her teachings were to support him in the periods in which he needed a creative impulse. Nikola Tesla knew how to harness his imagination, even if he was its prey in a wildly manner since his tender age, he succeeded in subdueing his imagination to work as laboratory for his ideas, in which he could project and test his inventions. Without knowing it, he proved to himself his own power by exercising his divine nature, that of his creative mind. When in his imagination he loosened up himself into other worlds and met other people, even from different ages, he believed to live extraordinary phenomenas that were occurring without rational explication, not knowing he entered in contact with eternity, what we now know as quantum field, where space and time nullify and everything coexists. If in imagination we can visit far places, far eras and meet unknown people, interacting with them as Tesla did, where space and time are? Where are the limits between reality and dream? Yet man dreams constantly, he imagines continuously and he seldom recognizes that cannot exist separation between dream and reality because cannot exist separation between man and imagination.
Tesla didn't believe in psychic phenomenas till the event he lived when at her mother's death a vision informed him so that the question of what spirituality was aroused in him and sounded in his mind a long period. He did not realize that dreams and visions are nothing but imagination and they are possible because everything exist in the imagination and nothing can exist outside of imagination and man is imagination. Imagination is a substance, it is tangible to the mind and in the mind, and it becomes matter to our five senses, likeTesla's wireless is today an instrument of our daily life in all areas. What has been in his mind at the end of '800 as an idea, as an aim, as an objective, together with its solutions and applications that could be possible to obtain by its use, and what he completely saw in his mind with specific details, today is a completed practical fact, those thoughts have become visible matter. Yet they told him it could not be done, he himself gives the names of who told him that it could not be actualized, that it was impossible. Tesla confesses in his book that he knew it could be realized, he saw his invention already defined, every invention of his, and defined were the uses of his invention, and he was right to consider possible everything he imagined for today we can testify by touching daily by hands what once were his thoughts, together with their related benefits for humanity, because he held clear in mind a simple concept: nature must evolve and man can understand directly from nature how to enhance himself.
His marriage with nature, with life, was the propulsive force of his inventive activity and imagination was the instrument through which this connection was established and made concrete. His mind could live ahead in time when he conceived the solutions to human needs, even if they were incomprehensible to the most, as much as he himself defines that his time was not mature for wireless, why? Because differently from those that did not believe, he trusted the actability of what mind can conceive, he considered mind as creative; he tested his imagination, without knowing the reasons, to be a reality that allows to anticipate the future because every idea could give birth to a device perfectly working. What he built in his mind, he knew he could materialize, that was his primary discovery and that was the instrument by which he accomplished every invention. If it was imaginable and then materially transformable in a device that worked perfectly as conceived in his mind, therefore it was actable; therefore contemplating nature, he was inventing, and he invented what has enhanced the everyday life of humanity, as it was his aim.
From the book of Revelation and from a passage of Goethe's Faust arrived two important inspirations for the solution of some technical problems of his inventions. Open to the universal mind in his imagination, he trusted that the intuitions would be arrived, he did not know how, they could arrive from every source, the most unthinkable one, such as a book of the Bible or the sonnet of an artist, the important fact was that they'd arrive and he had faith in it and he rested open to the benevolence of the universe and to its unpredictable and sure language. As he tells, during his childhood he learned to appreciate "the inestimable value of introspection in the preservation of life, as well as a means of achievement", and he also writes "Most persons are so absorbed in the contemplation of the outside world that they are wholly oblivious to what is passing on within themselves.". It was that constant connection with himself to permit him to develop the infinite connection to the inexhaustible source which is life and which gives life; and it echoes his imposing statement "instinct is something which transcends knowledge.", because instinct is the trait d'union to pure and infinite life. Nature taught him to respect nature, not to try to overbear it or capture it, but to harness it to the most noble advantages for man and so he flew with it. His objective was to enhance the lifestyle of humanity and in this direction to realize those improvements that could allow man to live in peace, erasing the necessity of war. First of all he believed that the task of an inventor was to contribute to the enhance man's life, and that this was possible through the man's creative mental activity, but he also affirmed that "ultimate purpose is the complete mastery of mind over the material world".
I don't know what, after the reading of the Bible, Tesla realized, I do not know what he thought of his imaginative power as a creative power in himself, but I can understand through his writing that he trusted his imagination and that faith was worth the discoveries he made and we are using them daily. Nikola Tesla is the example of the value of an assumption as gate through which objectives are accomplished and you see that assumptions are imagination. His life proves that imagination is a substance, that from it matter takes origin, both as idea and inspiration, as well as form; also it demonstrates that the materialization of imagination comes through an operant factor which is the mind of man. His life is the example that demonstrates that to reach goals it is much more productive to discover the Self and cultivating one's own imagination rather than focusing on the outside and struggling in a physical fight. Although everything carries on a teaching, in a practical way it is more useful to cultivate a dream than to physically fight against the world and the difficulties to realize it, because a dream, or it's better to say a firm assumption, has in it the force and the means for its self-realization.
Tesla had found the source of life and in it he lived satisfying his thirst of knowledge and that infinitely unlimited and benevolent source quenched him because he trusted her. It was that concept of himself, that firm assumption of the role of the inventor that created the inventor and his inventions. He did not differ from any other man, what was Tesla's life can be the life of everyone for Tesla's faculties are the same in every human being, it just takes courage and faith in oneself and, without fighting against the obstacles, just by contemplating the goal in the imagination, those universal forces that animated Tesla can be awakened in everyone.
An example of unmovable faith that of Tesla, faith in his capacities and in those of life to feed discovery, continuously inspired him since his childhood. He was near his ten years of life when, fascinated by Niagara falls, he pictured in his mind a big wheel turned by them and said to his uncle that he would go to America to realize it. That image took form thirty years later and it was exactly as he imagined it as he writes in his book adding that he was "marveled at the unfathomable mystery of the mind".
It's through the faith in himself that man realizes the mastery of his own mind and with it that of his own fate and eventually he becomes its conscious author. Only when he reaches concrete and tangible proof of his mental power he can be complete owner of himself, but are dreams and desires to lit man's imagination and through them he build an imaginative destination, then it's only by his perseverant faith in the assumption of being already there that he will reach it because there is no power that can contrast human consciousness, 'as a man is in his heart, so he is' is written in the Bible and Nikola Tesla's life is one of the many testimonies.
